A Supportive Conversation with Dr Esther Aslan: Mental Health and Arts Participation

A Supportive Conversation with Dr Esther Aslan: Reflections

‍Wednesday 11 December 2024, 10am – 11.30am (please note change of date from that previously advertised)
Milton Keynes Arts Centre, Great Linford, Parklands MK14 5DZ
Places are limited. Booking essential.

‍In the parable of the blind men and the elephant, a group of blind men encounter an elephant for the first time. Each man feels a different part of the elephant's body and, through that limited contact, describes what he thinks the elephant to be. The men's interpretations differ widely. The man who touched the trunk believes the elephant to be like a thick snake; the man who touched the elephant's ear describes it to be like a fan; whilst the man who touched a leg believes the elephant to resemble a tree trunk.

In this, the final of four supportive conversations, Milton Keynes-based educational and child psychologist, Dr. Esther Aslan, will use the parable of the blind men and the elephant to frame a conversation about the partiality and subjectivity of human encounters within the sphere of creative health. The session will reflect upon previous conversations about 'best practice' and 'building rapport when time is limited' and will invite an open-floor discussion on next steps.

This series of Supportive Conversations has been organised by Milton Keynes Arts Centre in partnership with Arts for Health Milton Keynes and is designed to support professional participatory artists working in creative health.

This session is free but booking is essential as places are limited.

Please RSVP by Wednesday 04 December 2024 to fiona@miltonkeynesartscentre.org
