What will be covered in the class?
A dyeing workshop exploring the dyes we can access in Winter.
Nature always has colour for us, even when the leaves are no longer on the trees and the flowers are gone. In this workshop we will explore barks, roots and the few Winter plants at our disposal as well as looking to the compost heap for potential dye sources in the form of kitchen waste.
We will explore techniques for ensuring colour fastness of dyes and modifying colours, as well as some dye resist and printing.
Each student will leave with a selection of colour swatches and samples and some ideas of how they can be sewn into functional objects.
All materials are included.
We will spend some time in outdoors if weather permits so wrap up warm and wear suitable footwear for the time of year.
Location
Art Studio, the art studio is situated at the top of a flight of stairs. We will also visit our outdoor garden space during the course.
