What will be covered in the class?
Work with watercolour materials to create responses to natural still life compositions and landcapes. Master different brush techniques, how to use masking fluid, create watercolour washes and use mixed media in this structured class which will take you through basic techniques to becoming a confident and creative watercolourist.
The art studio is situated at the top of a flight of stairs. Tools are all light and accessible. Work benches are not currently height adjustable.
What to bring?
You should bring a watercolour pad, basic set of watercolour paints, well paint palette and watercolour brushes. Your tutor will advise you throughout the course on suitable materials to supplement your learning and develop your own toolbox. Please bring an apron or shirt to cover clothes, tie back long hair and wear close-toed shoes.
Julia Roach is an established visual artist and facilitator whose practice is primarily focused on experimenting with mixed media, graphite and inks. Julia’s work often features collected and found objects. Drawing is intrinsic part of her creative process and my approach is predominantly figurative incorporating colour and exploring a variety of mark making approaches. Julia holds a BA in Painting from Cantebury College of Art and an MFA from Newcastle University.
