Who is this class suitable for?
Suitable for ages 5–10 years

What will be covered in the class?
Create a bright and beautiful woven circle artwork inspired by the colours all around us in Spring. You will learn how to make and use your own circular loom, weaving together different colours and textures.

This workshop is an introduction to weaving in a circle. You will begin by making your own circular loom out of a piece of cardboard and some wool. Then, learn how to weave in a circle using a selection of wools - experimenting with contrasting colours and different textures. Your design can be very simple, or very complex! The workshop is suitable for all ages. The finished weaving will stay on the cardboard, making it easy to display. Sarah learned to weave in South America where they are famous for their bright hand-dyed wools and intricate patterns.

What you’ll need to find at home
  • Circle of card about 20cm diameter (try drawing around a plate)
  • Additional fabrics from unwanted items of brightly clothing clothing or scrap fabric, cut into strips of different lengths and widths.
  • Pencil
  • Sellotape
  • Scissors

Tutor
Sarah gained her Master’s degree in Contemporary Crafts from Falmouth University in 2009. Alongside creating her own work, she is an experienced tutor, leading art and textile workshops for both children and adults for nearly 10 years. Sarah has also worked for arts and health charities promoting the benefits of creativity for well-being, and travelled in South and Central America learning about their textiles and culture. She is passionate about experimenting with new creative skills and sharing them with others in a relaxed and playful way.
