What will be covered in the workshop?
Join ceramic artist Andrew Macdermott in a Spooktacular ceramic lantern making workshop using slab building techniques and items found at home. During this demonstration, participants will learn how to create slabs of clay to wrap around cylindrical objects and create a base for your lantern to sit on. You will learn how to use cross hatching and create a clay slip to secure pieces of your lantern together and will be shown how tools found around the house and outdoors can help to add texture and decoration to your final piece.
Families of all ages are welcome to watch the demonstration for free as we live stream on Zoom. For those wanting to give it a go alongside Andy, please see below for a list of things to get ready before you start. Some materials can be purchased at the time of booking and collected from Milton Keynes Arts Centre.
For inspiration on useful tools found around the home and outdoors to shape and decorate your lantern, check out Andy’s recent online creative learning video Pottery Tools Guide here.
