What will be covered in the class?
Slip casting is the technique used in the ceramic industry to create multiple identical pieces which can then be decorated. In this day workshop, you will learn how to turn clay into casting slip; before using this slip to cast ceramic items and learning techniques to decorate and personalise your creations. Choose from range of plaster moulds available in our ceramics studio, including mugs, bowls and egg cups to specialist ornamental items.
Workshop 1: learn the slip casting technique and cast your items
Your artworks will then be bisque fired for you in our kilns
Workshop 2: Decorate your slip cast times with a range of colour and glazing techniques
What will students leave the class with?
Students will leave with 2-3 decorated slip cast pieces. The items will be glazed fired after the second workshop ready for you to collect at a later date.
All materials and tools are included. You may wish to bring a sketchbook to draw designs and make notes. Aprons or coveralls should be worn at all times, along with hair-ties and closed-toe shoes.
