Who is this class suitable for?
Ages 16+
Suitable for any level of experience.
What will be covered in the class?
This course will introduce students to a broad range of techniques and approaches to ceramics. Led by tutor Elizabeth Westray, students will be encouraged to experiment with clay, develop their own designs and explore various ceramic techniques including approaches to glazing and hand building. The more experienced potters will be free to make their own designs. For beginners, the tutor will work with students on handbuilding techniques in the first week, throwing in the second week, and glazing in the third week. All students will be encouraged to work on more detailed projects.
🌍️
In an effort to make our site more environmentally friendly, we will be restricting kiln firings to a maximum of 6kg (raw clay) of work per student per term.
What will I need to bring?
Students should bring a small sketchbook and pencil.
Location
Ceramics Studio (Ground floor with raised tables, narrow doorways).
Tutor
Lizzie Westray is a Milton Keynes based ceramicist specialising in sculptural ceramics and ‘low-tech’ firings such as Raku and wood-fired kilns.
