Who is this class suitable for?
Ages 16+
All skill levels welcome.

What will be covered in the class?
In this 10 week course ceramicist Andy Macdermott will guide students through practical skills and expert theory on how to build sculpture from clay.

You will learn the techniques to create two sculptural pottery works. You will learn how to create formers to build your forms and learn the sculpting techniques to develop and hone your skills.

Students are encouraged to be experimental and creative as each work created will be entirely unique to the individual. You could make a favourite animal, the human form or create an abstract, expressionist piece. You will experiment with materials and approaches. This is a great course for those with no experience or for those with some experience to gain confidence in creating larger pieces.

Once your work is fired, you will have the opportunity to glaze your creations.

What will students leave the class with?
You will leave with two fired pottery sculptures, a knowledge of the basics of pottery sculpture and how to create forms.

What will I need to bring?
Materials and tools are included. You may wish to bring a sketchbook to draw designs and make notes.

Aprons or coveralls should be worn at all times, along with hair-ties and closed-toe shoes.

Location
Ceramics Studio (Ground floor with raised tables, narrow doorways).

🌍️
In an effort to make our site more environmentally friendly, we ask that students respect our wishes to reduce the amount of uncollected / unwanted work at the end of term.
