Peer to Peer: UK/HK

June–July 2021

Milton Keynes Arts Centre is delighted to be part of Peer to Peer: UK/HK, a digital programme and platform encouraging meaningful cultural exchange and forging enduring partnerships between the UK and Hong Kong’s visual arts sectors.

In June 2021, with the support of Peer to Peer, we invited HK-based artist, Tang Kwok-hin, to be virtual artist in residence at Brooklands Farm Primary School in Milton Keynes. The artist sent every child in a year group of 180 an individualised gift from Hong Kong. This gift took the form of a paper cup, each with a different hand-written Chinese symbol on its base.

On a daily basis between 16 June and 14 July, the children were asked to put a word or a drawing into the cup representing both their day and sense of wellbeing. During this period, the children also researched and learnt about life in Hong Kong and, at the project’s conclusion, shared some of their words and pictures to create a joint artwork as a thank you to the artist, spelling out the word ‘BALANCE’.

Peer to Peer has been generously supported by funding from Arts Council England and the GREAT campaign.
