Who is this class suitable for?
This workshop is suitable for all abilities. The morning workshop is suitable for children 8–12 years of age and the afternoon of young people 13–17 years of age.
We kindly ask that you contact us inform of any accessibility needs at the time of booking.
Children/young people do not need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
What will be covered in the workshop?
Are you a budding young illustrator or storyteller? If so this workshop is for you! Using recycled materials we will create imaginative character models – they can be human, animal, or as fantastical as you like! Rosie will then help you create character profiles for your models, conjuring up their personalities, habitats, and backstories.
Older participants will take their character development in to the world of zine making by learning how to fold their own zine, create dynamic panel layouts for their character’s stories, and understand the use of limited colour palettes for conveying atmosphere, emotion, and genre.
What will participants leave the workshop with?
At the end of the session, participants will leave with their ‘found object friend’ sculptural character, along with an illustrated profile sheet of their character. Older participants/ those who would like a further challenge in the session will also leave with a zine/ comic starring their character model, and skills in zine creation which they can build on in their own time.
What will I need to bring?
All tools and materials are included. Participants will need to wear clothing suitable for making art, including closed toed shoes.
Location
Art Studio: Please note the art studio is situated at the top of a flight of stairs. Tools are all light and accessible. Work benches are not currently height adjustable.
