Who is this class suitable for?
This class is suitable for beginners to the more experienced ceramic student. Whilst teaching the foundations of hand building, coiling, slip casting and throwing, the course offers the more advanced student more sophisticated techniques such as working with different types of clay and glaze techniques.
What will be covered in the class?
This 10-week course will introduce students to a broad range of techniques and approaches to ceramics. Led by tutor Elizabeth Westray, students will be encouraged to experiment with clay, develop their own designs and explore various ceramic techniques including approaches to glazing and hand building. Like all of our ceramics course, this course provides the opportunity to experiment in our pottery studio in an informal and relaxed environment with the support and guidance of our expert tutors.
One bag of clay, glaze materials and kiln firings. Learners should wear close toed shoes and appropriate clothes for making with clay. Please bring your own notebooks for sketching and recording technical notes.
What to bring?
Students should bring a small sketchbook and pencil.
Lizzie Westray is an Milton Keynes based ceramicist specialising in sculptural ceramics and ‘low-tech’ firings such as Raku and wood-fired kilns.
