Who is this class suitable for?
This class is suitable for beginners to the more experienced ceramic student. Whilst teaching the foundations of hand building, coiling, slip casting and throwing, the course offers the more advanced student more sophisticated techniques such as working with different types of clay and glaze techniques.
What will be covered in the class?
This 10-week course will introduce students to a broad range of techniques and approaches to ceramics. Led by tutor Elizabeth Westray, students will be encouraged to experiment with clay, develop their own designs and explore various ceramic techniques including approaches to glazing and hand building. Like all of our ceramics course, this course provides the opportunity to experiment in our pottery studio in an informal and relaxed environment with the support and guidance of our expert tutors.
What to bring?
Students will need to purchase some of their own course specific materials . Stoneware or grog clay can be bought for £10 when booking your place or by calling Milton Keynes Arts Centre. Students should bring a small sketchbook and pencil.
Kirsteen Holuj has 20 years of pottery experience and has been teaching part time for 15 of those years. The focus of her practice currently is exploring how textures made on the surface of pots formed on the wheel can be enhanced by different firing techniques such as soda firing and raku.
‘Clay is the most amazing material and with patience, practice and perseverance can produce an endless variety and always unique results.’ – Tutor Kirsteen Holuj
