Who is this class suitable for?
Suitable for all levels from those who have not worked with clay before, those still learning, to the experienced potter. We aim to share, support and encourage each other whatever the experience.
What will be covered in the class?
Over 10-weeks, students will cover a range of basic ceramic techniques including coiling, slab work, use of moulds and glazing, working towards the use of the potter’s wheel. Guided by ceramicist Andrew Macdermott, students will learn a broad range of skills that will be applied to create vases, plates, vessels, and pieces of their own choice. This popular course will teach students the skills of an ancient craft whilst exploring their own creativity.
What to bring?
A small sketchbook and pencil. Students will need to purchase some of their own course specific materials. Clay can be bought for £10 whilst booking and available to purchase throughout the course. Students should bring a small sketchbook and pencil.
Andrew Macdermott is a product of evening pottery classes at Milton Keynes Arts Centre. ‘I fell in love with the tactile clay immediately and now a few years on I teach the class I learnt in.’ Andy makes and sells Icelandic-inspired ceramic pieces at craft fairs and galleries across the country.
