CERAMICS OPEN SESSION

There is a minimum of 5 people and a maximum of 12 people for each hour of the session.

Please note as an untutored session, for everyone’s safety we reserve the right to ask participants to leave the studio if terms of use or sufficient competency levels for independent working are not met.
The studio has 4 potters wheels available to use by those experienced to do so.
Ceramics Open Sessions are untutored workshops designed for people who have previously taken our pottery courses at MKAC, that would like to use the studio to make their own ceramic creations and get to know other people who are also interested in making ceramics.
Note: *Due to the Ceramics Studio Facilities closing to the public at the end of March 2023 these sessions are primarily an opporunity to finish existing works.
A technician will be on site to monitor the sessions ensuring the safety of all participants.
Ceramics Firing Service
Please note these sessions are for studio use only and the fee does not include bisque, or glaze firing which are available to purchase at an additional cost. (Please see Ceramic Firing Service page for details).
You can either bring your own clay (stoneware only), or you can purchase from us:
New: £15 per 12.5 kg bag
Reclaim: £5 per 12.5kg bag
You can also use the glazes provided or your own midrange glaze (1220–1260 degrees/cone 6, only)
You will need to take the remaining clay and work home with you that is not to be fired.
Clothing
Aprons or coveralls should be worn at all times, along with hair-ties and closed-toe shoes.

Ceramics Studio (Ground floor with raised tables, narrow doorways).
