What will be covered in the class?
“To draw we need to learn how to ‘see’, to do this we need to understand the five perceptual skills of drawing”
Betty Edwards, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.
Join us for this five-week intensive drawing course, based around the 5 basic principles of drawing: Line and Edge; Shape and Space, Light and Darks, Relationships and Bringing it Together.
Increase your confidence as we discover the basic principles of drawing together. Be prepared to make lots of ‘mistakes’- the best way to learn - and do lots of practice!
Week 1: Line and Edge - using a range of drawing tools including pencil, graphite, charcoal and erasers to explore the shape and quality of line.
Week 2: Shape and Space – looking for negative space in the pose and applying it to shape what you are drawing, using chalks, coloured pastels, and coloured paper.
Week 3: Lights and Darks – using a charcoal ground and putty rubbers, to explore shading and highlights and to create improved three dimensional form in your drawings.
Week 4: Relationships – use guides and artist techniques to create more accurate perspective and proportion in your drawings, using colour and texture.
Week 5: Bringing it together – the opportunity to choose your preference of materials, to create an artwork applying all the skills and techniques covered on the course.
