What will be covered in the class?
Abstract Painting is a calm and inviting course that encourages you to produce and build confidence in developing your own unique and natural style of working.
Each lesson begins with an approachable practical experiment that is later developed using various materials such as acrylic paints, watercolour, pen and ink and collage; all will be demonstrated on how they can be used in each session and constant guidance will be given throughout the course.
Contemporary artists are introduced and discussed each week to aid as reference material. This course is ideal for beginners and amateur artists that are wanting to experiment with materials and ideas further.
What to bring?
You will need to bring an A4 sketchbook, set of paintbrushes, ink, and basic paint sets including a set of: acrylics, watercolours, oils and gouaches. A starter paint pack can be purchased from Milton Keynes Arts Centre prior to your course for £25; details of how to purchase this pack will be emailed two weeks prior to your course start date. Shared tools including palettes and easels will be available for your use but you are welcome to bring your own.

The arts studio which is situated at the top of a flight of stairs. Tools are all light and accessible and work benches are not currently height adjustable.
Chantelle Stephenson is a practising artist and educator that graduated from the Cambridge School of Art in 2007. She has tutored Fine Art on the Foundation Art and Design course at Hitchin College and run workshops for Camden Arts Centre, The South London Gallery, and Milton Keynes Arts Centre.
